USA
gives a volleyball lesson to El Salvador
TIJUANA, Mexico, July 6, 2010 – USA overwhelmed El Salvador 3-0
(25-8, 25-4, 25-7) in a match of Pool C of the NORCECA Women’s
Junior Continental Championship that lasted 56 minutes. USA
out-blocked the defeated side 10-1 and also had a 6-1 advantage
in the serve category.
Each team would have to play in second matches later today due
to a late arrival of El Salvador which caused a change in the
original schedule.
Haleigh Hampton had three blocks and two aces among her 9 points
to lead the winning side. Kelly Reeves also had 9 tallies, while
Carly Wopat and Jane Crosson registered 8 points apiece.
“I know how difficult it is “I know how difficult it is for a
team like El Salvador to arrive after 1:00 am sleep for a while
and then wake up early, to play at 10 in the morning”, stated
USA’s coach Robert Browning whose team had a second match
scheduled later today against Guadeloupe.
“It was difficult for us because we knew we had to face a team
with a very high level, but playing on this stage against the
USA is an honor for the Volleyball of El Salvador”, said Coach
Nery Henriquez.
